Description:
Coronet 500 Convertible Factory Big Block, 4 Speed, Sure-Grip. Orginally a California car spent the last 35 plus years in dry storage. Purchased from the son of the man who ordered it I have owned it for about 12 years spent seven doing a resto mod. I lived in Texas when I purchased it has never been out in the weather since I have owned it. I now live in Northern Wisconsin; it spends winters in an insulated workshop on jack stands. The cars odometer had about 96,000 original miles I was told it was correct and from the condition of the suspension and drive train when I got it I would say that is about right.
The car came equipped with a 361 four speed and 323 sure-grip 8 &3/4 all factory ordered. The 361 was replaced with the 383 about 35 years ago the casting numbers are correct for the car. From the factory it was white with a metallic blue interior. The car has zero I repeat zero rust and from working on it I can tell the only road rash it has ever had is when it was relatively new it got rear-ended very minor trunk and latch damage repaired back then by the Dodge shop. All of the bright work & Stainless steel is factory original. The power top functions as it should.
At some point one section of the convertible top had jammed prior to my getting it and a pivot ear was broken off, it has a repair not real noticeable. As you might know convertible top cast parts are very rare I have not in 12 years been able to find a replacement. It does not affect the function of the top.
Most of the work is 5 years old. Only about 5,000 miles since the engine was gone through. It is a 383 high performance casting numbers match year built. The engine bore is 40 over rods and mains are factor original. Heads were modernized with hardened seats and valves. It comes with mild cam and Edelbrock 550cfm carb that is only 3 years old on a stock intake, high performance electronic ignition system. Headman headers and 2.5 inch exhaust with turbo mufflers. The drive shaft was a ball & trunnion type that has been replaced with a 500 HP performance shaft. (still have original drive shaft in a box). The clutch is a heavy duty clutch. I drove the car from San Antonio Texas to Northern Wisconsin 4 years ago.
The interior is leather saddle tan and brown new carpet and insulation, new tan top. Cagier SS mags TA radials less than 1,000 miles on them. Equipped with front and rear sway bars. The paint is metallic cherry red and in good condition. This is a driver not a show car!
If you wanted to invest the right amount of money to make it a 1000 point correct car you could not find a better car to start with. If you are looking for a car to drive and have fun with it is there now. It always turns heads when I drive it or take it to events that are for driver type cars. Keep in mind this is a 65-year-old car that was not intended to last more than 10 years, everything was refreshed 5 years ago. I am a good photographer and will send you and photos of any part of the car you desire, I am asking 28K but will consider a realistic offer.
